We’re folks from Victoria, BC who sing original arrangements of pop, folk and indie music.

For over ten years, The Choirs YYJ has endeavored to bring amateur singers together to perform unique and original choral arrangements of pop, indie and folks songs.

Before we were four ensembles (The Choir, The Chorus, Mini-Choir and Sound Dragon), we were a motley group of people who gathered in local music shop in 2013 to sing well-known and not-so-well-known songs for fun. (Still our first love.) In those early days, we had no idea that so many of our friends and neighbours were eager to belt out a song!

Today, our group has multiplied in size, notoriety, and music-making activities. Collectively, our non-auditioned ensembles, “The Choirs YYJ,” includes over 200 people of all ages, genders, experiences, vocal abilities and musical tastes. The Mini-Choir is an auditioned chamber group performing similar yet more challenging repertoire.

The Choirs are Directed by Marc Jenkins, and accompanied on piano by Erin Gray, and sometimes on guitar by Layten Kramer.

In addition to hosting two annual concerts The Choirs are regular guest artists at performances on Vancouver Island, including: Rifflandia (2014-2023), Islands Folk Festival, and Campbell Bay Music Festival. We’re big on collaboration!

Our singers have shared the stage with West My Friend, Layten Kramer, Kirsten Ludwig, Half Moon Shine, Fox Glove, Vox Humana Chamber Choir, Kathryn Calder, Pharis and Jason Romero, Choir!Choir Choir!, Aidan Knight and more great artists.
